As the pressing issue of water demand takes the limelight we should act now to promote and develop responsible water solutions for the future of Northeast Texas.

The newly formed Northeast Texas Water Coalition was established to support water development in Northeast Texas with an emphasis on promoting the potential benefits of the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir. (Maps of proposed reservoir)

Our experience with Lake Bob Sandlin and Lake Cypress Springs has proven that water development has the ability to create enormous economic impact and tax base for the future of the Northeast Texas region.

In a 2003 study produced for the Sulphur River Basin Authority by economists Terry Clower, Ph. D. and Bernard Weinstein, Ph.D. they concluded that the construction of the Marvin Nichols reservoir will:

  • provide significant short-term economic gains,
  • generate long-term economic opportunities to local businesses,
  • create jobs for area residents, and
  • result in an enormous increased tax base for our area.

Additionally, the Marvin Nichols reservoir will serve to meet the increase in demand from industry and households for water resources due to the growing population in Northeast Texas and other parts of our state.

Every voice strengthens our ability to effect change and we need you to help us by showing your support of our initiative. The Northeast Texas Water Coalition has developed this web site to inform local citizens of our mission and to educate them on the benefits of the Marvin Nichols Reservoir.

You can also help us to spread this message by contacting your friends, family, and business associates and asking them to support the Northeast Texas Water Coalition.
